Innovative Self-Monitoring Glucose Device

ABS is developing a revolutionary hand-held glucose meter with innovative characteristics and patient benefits.  The Little Deer device can measure glucose in a variety of specimens including: whole blood, serum or a venous blood specimen with sub micro liter range volumes.

Using the latest in nanotechnology, glucose in the specimen is measured using a sensor chip with a unique membrane.  An electrical voltage is applied to the sensor chip which generates current that is proportional to the glucose concentration. These electrochemical reactions do not produce any waste material and eliminate the need to add reagent to the chip.  The end result is a device that is accurate, precise, fast and sensitive that is environmentally friendly as well as improved cost-effectiveness for patients.

While this device will clearly benefit all diabetic patients, it will be especially beneficial for children.  Furthermore, because our device is exceptionally accurate at the low end of the blood glucose concentration, it is extremely useful in the prevention of hypoglycemia episode.  Diabetes patients can check themselves before and after exercise or other activities, preventing dangerously low levels of hypoglycemia and the resulting coma and increased risk of death.

Nanobiomimetic Reagent-Less Detection And Therapeutic Monitoring Devices

ABS’s nanobiomimetic reagent-less devices are capable of distinguishing a single subtype breast cancer cell from normal cells and are able for therapeutic functions. These sensors have also shown selectivity among different types of cancer cells.  Each of these devices is in the prototype stage.
